Arsenal and Chelsea have been put on alert after reports suggested that Monaco would be willing to let playmaker Joao Moutinho leave the club this summer.
According to the Daily Express, the 28-year-old still has three-years left on his contract with the Ligue 1 side, but could still be set for a surprise departure during this window.
The Premier League pair, along with Manchester United, have been keen on the Portuguese midfielder in the past, the Express report. However, the Red Devils’ acquisitions of Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Morgan Schneiderlin would suggest that Louis van Gaal may not be in the market for another player to play in the middle of the park.
His versatility would arguably appeal to both the champions and Arsene Wenger’s men, as they often played with five midfielders last season, with two fulfilling a holding role, while the other three sat just off the striker. Moutinho has proved in both France, and with Porto and Sporting Lisbon previously, that he is able to do whatever job is required, which may tempt either club into a bid.
