Arsenal could swoop in ahead of Tottenham, and complete a deal for Juventus forward Fernando Llorente by Monday, according to the Metro.
The Metro suggest that the 30-year-old is set to move to the Emirates for £8.56m, as Arsene Wenger attempts to provide Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott with more competition.
And as strikers go, they don’t come much more decorated than the Spaniard. As well as winning the World Cup and European Championship, his club side enjoyed an amazing campaign during the season just gone.
Having won the Scudetto for a fourth straight year – two of which have come since Llorente moved to the Old Lady – and the Coppa Italia, the Serie A side were denied the treble as Barcelona narrowly beat them in the Champions League final.
While the former Athletic Bilbao man has not enjoyed the best of times at Juventus Stadium, it would no doubt have given Massimiliano Allegri plenty of comfort to turn around and realise that he had Llorente to throw on if things weren’t going quite right.
With Giroud and Walcott looking strong in pre-season, Llorente may well play a similar role for the Gunners. But, having a World Cup winner around is surely only going to benefit the side as they try to win the Premier League crown.
