Arsenal have been given the green light to sign Roma defender Alessio Romagnoli as they would rather do business with the Gunners than sell him to league rivals AC Milan, according to the Metro.
Having impressed with Sampdoria on loan last season, Romagnoli has been tipped to move on this summer with Milan said to be waiting in the wings.
However, reports last week claimed that the Gunners had entered the scene (via the Daily Express), and has subsequently seen their chances boosted by reports close to Roma stating that they would rather sell the player to them than Milan.
Roma aren’t keen on selling the 20-year-old to a direct rival, and have apparently also reached an impasse in negotiations with Milan who aren’t willing to up their offer from £17.5m (via Sky Sports).
The Metro still believe that that fee is higher than what Arsenal would be willing to offer, but their chances are greatly increased thanks to Roma’s reluctance to provide a rival with a potential future star.
Romagnoli’s move to the Premier League could be sped up after Roma’s director, Walter Sabatini, was seen in England earlier in the week (via the Metro).
