Sergi Samper’s future is set to be decided in the coming weeks, according to the Metro, and a move to Arsenal is one of the options reportedly on the table in front of him.
The Metro report that Barcelona are keen to keep hold of the exciting 20-year-old, but may be unable to offer him regular first-team football, which has prompted the Gunners to step in. According to the Metro, the Premier League side are willing to trigger the holding midfielder’s release clause, forcing the Spaniard into a decision that he looks set to put a lot of thought into.
While the Catalan side have been willing to hand opportunities to several of their promising youngsters over the years, it seems that Arsene Wenger is much braver when it comes to deciding whether to throw them in at the deep end.
And while the prospects that come through at the Emirates do not always end up delivering on their potential, there are plenty of success stories – including those of Hector Bellerin and Cesc Fabregas, who came from the Nou Camp – which may give Samper confidence that if he wishes to become the player that both sides know he could be, he needs to make the move.
