Borussia Dortmund have confirmed via their official website that striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract to stay until 2020.
The news will come as a blow to the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham, who had both displayed an interest in bringing the player to the Premier League this summer (via The Independent).
The Gabon international has been in prolific form for the Bundesliga giants, scoring a total of 42 goals across 95 appearances in his two years since arriving from French outfit Saint Etienne.
Dortmund explain that his current deal was due to expire in the summer of 2018, but perhaps cautious of the growing interest in his services, they have moved quickly to tie him down for a further two years.
“Auba has developed outstandingly. We are very happy that we have been able to tie him down to a long-term contract,” said Sporting Director Michael Zorc.
And the player himself expressed his delight at getting the deal done, highlighting how settled he feels not only at the club but in the city of Dortmund itself.
“I’m absolutely delighted that the next years of my career will be spent at Borussia Dortmund. I feel very happy at the club, in this team and in this city. BVB has become like a second home to me. Every part of me wants to be here and I have never wanted to leave,” he explained.
