Chelsea defender Filipe Luis looks set to call time on his difficult stay at Stamford Bridge, with a return to Atletico Madrid on the cards.
According to respected journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the left-back is closing in on agreeing a loan spell at Vicente Calderon. While the initial deal will see the 29-year-old move for a season, there is an option for an extra campaign.
However, the Daily Star suggest that the deal that will see Filipe Luis return to La Liga is actually a permanent one, and will involve Diego Simeone’s men paying the Premier League champions £11m, which would represent a £5m profit for the Spanish side.
Atleti will be hoping, upon his return, that he is able to replicate the form that attracted Chelsea’s interest in the first place. He was part of the side that stunned everyone by winning the La Liga title in 2013/14, and reached the Champions League final in the same season.
While he has been unable to hold down a regular spot in Jose Mourinho’s side, with Cesar Azpilicueta being preferred, he has still tasted success during this campaign, with both Premier League and Capital One Cup medals being added to his collection.
