Manchester United’s David de Gea will see out of the final year of his contract at Old Trafford. However, the news has not been so positively received by all of his teammates.
According to the Daily Star, despite the Spaniard’s desire to move to Real Madrid, Los Blancos’ inability to make an offer means that he will remain with the Premier League side for the next 12 months. United will now be hoping that they can do enough to persuade their key man to extend his stay in England.
Madrid’s failure to make a satisfactory offer may suggest that the club are not as keen on the stopper as he is on a move back to his home country. Meanwhile, there is little question of his value to Louis van Gaal’s side.
When the side started slowly at the beginning of the Dutchman’s tenure, it was de Gea that kept the club in several games with a string of unbelievable saves that evoked memories of some of the scarcely-believable stops that Peter Schmeichel used to produce.
He maintained that form once the side had got their act together.
With four marquee names already through the door ahead of the new campaign, van Gaal will be hoping that the Red Devils can enjoy some success – and possibly lift some silverware – in a last-minute attempt to persuade de Gea to stay.
The boost to their preparations ahead of the new season have resulted in another U-turn however, as the Star report that Victor Valdes now intends to leave the club.
Sky Sports reported, just yesterday, that the veteran’s agent Gines Carvajal confirmed that the stopper wished to stay and see out the final year of his contract.
However, the Star now report that the news that de Gea is set to remain for the time-being, has forced the former Barcelona man to rethink his plans.
