Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that deal that will see Brazilian international full-back Felipe Luis rejoin former club Atletico Madrid, the Daily Express reports.
Having helped Atletico to a surprise La Liga title in 2013/14, he was sold to Chelsea last summer for a fee of £15.8m (via BBC).
However, he endured a torrid time at Stamford Bridge, making only nine starts as Jose Mourinho preferred Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta instead.
The 29-year-old has now made a swift return to the Spanish capital, with Jose Mourinho confirming the deal by stating that he will now be dipping into the transfer market to replace him.
“In this moment we need a left-back, because I think we are selling Filipe Luis now or tomorrow,” he said.
“But I think we will sell Filipe Luis. We need to go the market, we need to find a club that accepts a bid until Aug. 31, and we are going for a left-back.”
The Blues have been continually linked with young Augsburg defender Abdul Baba Rahman (via Metro) and could now press ahead with his signing.
But Chelsea fans hoping for a summer spending spree will be disappointed as Mourinho confirmed that Felipe Luis’ replacement will likely be the club’s only signing of the summer.
“In other positions we have no space,” he added.
“We are a very happy group. The players feel it. We are a club in peace. We are a club where our future has to be bright.
“But imagine if somebody comes with a bid on Aug. 29 and we are happy with the bid, the player is happy to leave. We must be ready.
“If we speak about new players at the moment we speak about the balance of the squad, which is a balanced squad.”
But his stance could change depending whether Mohamed Salah takes leave to join Roma, who have reportedly opened talks with him on a season long loan (via the Daily Mirror).
