Former Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay is set to undergo a medical ahead of a potential move to Stoke City, according to the Daily Express.
The 29-year-old is a free agent, having left the Catalan giants at the end of last season. While he spent four years with the club, the majority of his last two seasons were spent out on loan, firstly with Schalke, and then with Olympiakos. He was let go by the Nou Camp outfit upon his return from the Greek side.
While he failed to make the impact he would have hoped for when he left PSV Eindhoven in 2011, there is no question that the signing will capture the imagination of Potters fans, who have now become accustomed to big names being linked with a switch to the Britannia Stadium.
As well as the signings of former Barcelona pair Bojan and Marc Muniesa in recent years, Mark Hughes’ men were linked with what would have been possibly the most surprising deal of the summer, when Swiss playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri was touted as a potential target (via Express).
