Southampton, Tottenham and Chelsea are all said to be eagerly awaiting the outcome of defender Toby Alderweireld’s future, which is likely to be decided next week, according to the Daily Express.
The highly-rated Belgium international spent last season on loan with Southampton from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, where he made a total of 27 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal.
And after making a positive impression, it seems that he now has more admirers across the top flight, though the Saints are hoping that they will be able to convince him to come back to them instead of making a move to Chelsea, who have also declared an interest in his services.
Southampton have the option to buy him for a fee of £6.8m, but Atletico can cancel that clause by paying £1.5m to Ronald Koeman’s side, and recently doubts have been cast over whether he will be returning to St Mary’s next term.
But now a report in the Daily Echo claims that Atletico are willing to do a deal, and will make a definitive decision on his future next week when the players return for pre-season training.
