Arsenal legend Jens Lehman has warned Petr Cech that in order for him to succeed at the Emirates Stadium, he must remove all the emotional ties connected to Chelsea, The Sun reports.
Cech completed his long-awaited move to north London last week, in arguably the biggest deal in the summer so far. The 33-year-old is essentially Arsenal’s replacement for Lehmann, such has been their desperate need for a top goalkeeper.
Still in his prime, Cech is expected to become an instant hit under the guidance of Arsene Wenger, but Lehmann has stressed that one important quality must be assumed by the Czech.
“At Chelsea, for Petr, it was his passion and he showed great commitment,” Lehmann was quoted as saying.
“But, as a professional, he must get over it and needs to know Arsenal want him to win things again for them.”
Professionalism is something Cech certainly has, and his mental strength will be tested early on in his Arsenal career with his debut set to come against Chelsea in the Community Shield.
