Liverpool have moved a step closer to agreeing a move for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke after the two clubs agreed on a payment structure for his £32.5m release clause, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Reds’ Managing Director Ian Ayre reportedly worked through the night all the way from Adelaide in order to meet Villa’s payment terms and putting the wheels in motion for the Belgian international to undergo a medical.
Club doctor Andy Massey will now make his way back to the UK from Australia to oversee Benteke’s medical, which will now likely take place down in London early this week.
And should the medical go off without any problems, the 24-year-old could find himself a Reds player within 48 hours, though he will not be jetting out to join his teammates Down Under.
Benteke has been Brendan Rodgers’ main transfer target this summer, and is fully aware of the impact the player has had on his club, notching five goals in six appearances against the Reds, and the move has been given the full blessing of Liverpool’s owners, the FSG Sports Group.
