Liverpool are considering the possibility of making a bid for Paris Saint-Germain full-back Lucas Digne, as Brendan Rodgers looks to apply the final touches to his new-looking squad.
According to the Daily Mail, the Reds will look to follow up the imminent signing of Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke by possibly making an approach for the 22-year-old. However, the Mail are uncertain as to whether the club would prefer a loan deal or whether they would rather see him move to Anfield on a permanent basis.
Should they manage to get a deal across the line, it may prove bad news for Alberto Moreno, who spent much of the last campaign in the left-back position.
While the Spaniard enjoyed some bright moments – not least his stunning goal against Tottenham in only his second appearance for the club – he was often guilty of not providing the rest of the back line with enough support defensively.
And while the acquisition of Joe Gomez may not have had him concerned for his place in the short-term – as the 18-year-old has previously only made a handful of appearances for Championship side Charlton – the youngster’s efforts in pre-season will have given Rodgers confidence that he is able to step into the first-team if needed.
Should they manage to sign Digne also, Moreno may find his chances severely limited.
