Louis van Gaal has given his biggest hint yet that Manchester United are hoping to broker a summer deal for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.
According to the Metro, when asked about the Spaniard and the possibility of a move, van Gaal responded: “It’s a process.”
“Maybe Mr Ramos is in the process, you never know,” he added.
The 29-year-old appears to have shot right to the very top of the club’s transfer target list. The Metro report that Ramos is interested in leaving the Bernabeu this summer following Los Blancos’ inability to offer the centre-back a lucrative new deal.
Meanwhile, the Spanish giants remain keen to bring United goalkeeper David de Gea back to the Spanish capital. Despite the Daily Star claiming that the Premier League side would rather lose the stopper for nothing next year – when his contract expires – than during this window for a cut-price, United fans will be disappointed to lose such a key player for nothing next year, should that end up being the case.
The Red Devils may change their stance if they feel it would boost their hopes of landing Ramos, especially with de Gea’s days at Old Trafford appearing to be numbered, should his desire to move to the La Liga side be as strong as the Daily Star suggest.
