An amazing 70% of Real Madrid fans have voted that they do not want David de Gea to move to the Bernabeu this summer, and would rather he joins the Spanish giants on a free next year.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Madrid hierarchy remain keen to bring the 24-year-old back to the Spanish capital during this window, prompting Marca to ask supporters whether they would like to see him move now, or when his contract expires in 12 months’ time.
United’s insistence that should Rafael Benitez’s men want the stopper, they would have to make him the most expensive goalkeeper of all-time (via Daily Mirror) could certainly be one of the deciding factors behind the fans’ desire to delay any deal for another year.
However, they have lost their legendary skipper Iker Casillas, who has joined Porto, while de Gea’s career continues to go from strength to strength. It could be argued that Louis van Gaal’s side would be nowhere near the Premier League’s top four without his efforts, especially in the early part of the campaign where he kept them in several games.
It appears however, that the Madridistas have enough confidence in the man that remains at the Bernabeu, to be able to fill the void that they are hoping de Gea will fill in a year. Coincidentally, around 70% believe that Keylor Navas is capable of being the number one, for this season at least, before their patience is supposed rewarded by the arrival of de Gea, with no fee required to make him a Galactico.
