Real Madrid are reportedly ready to ramp up their interest in highly-rated Wolfsburg full-back Ricardo Rodriguez, the Daily Express reports.
The Swiss international’s agent had previously claimed that Manchester United had made contact with the Bundesliga giants over the player’s availability.
However, a recent injury to Portuguese full-back Fabio Coentrao has prompted Rafa Benitez to reassess his options to focus on strengthening his defence instead.
The former Liverpool boss sent a team of scouts to watch Rodriguez last season and could now decide to rekindle their interest in his signature.
The 22-year-old announced himself as a top prospect during last summer’s World Cup, where he helped Switzerland to the quarter finals with a series of exciting displays.
He was also a key component of Wolfsburg’s impressive season that saw the club chalk up an impressive second place finish behind champions Bayern Munich.
The Express report also goes on to state that Wolfsburg are in danger of losing midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, who is of interest to Manchester City.
