Manchester United star Angel Di Maria is being tipped to miss the kick off of the new Premier League season next month after picking up a hamstring injury during the Copa America final against Chile on Saturday night, the Daily Mirror reports.
Having been hauled off just half an hour into the game, the 27-year-old now faces an anxious wait to discover the true extent of the damage.
The former Real Madrid man was already due to miss out on Man United’s pre-season tour of the United States later this month, as manager Louis van Gaal handed him a four-week break to recover from a year of non-stop football.
But this new injury scare could mean that he will also sit out of United’s season opener against Tottenham Hotspur on August 8.
Di Maria has been consistently linked with a move away to Bayern Munich this summer (via The Independent), but if his injury is as bad as first feared, it could put any prospective transfer in serious jeopardy.
