Manchester City will be willing to spend at least £35m in their attempts to sign Wolfsburg’s Kevin De Bruyne.
According to the Metro, the Premier League side will wait until the Belgian finishes discussions about a new contract with his current club, before making their move for him.
The Metro suggest that City will offer the former Chelsea man £150,000 a week as they try desperately to persuade him into a move.
Their desire to land the playmaker may have been ramped up in the past few hours, after the Daily Mirror suggested that their other major target Paul Pogba has already agreed a move to Barcelona, which will be completed next summer, according to reports in Spain.
Manuel Pellegrini has unsurprisingly realised that, despite apparently missing out on the Juventus man, De Bruyne is the kind of player that could revitalise Manchester City’s squad.
Last year, the team that had won two titles in the last four seasons appeared to reach the end of its cycle, as they failed to keep up with Jose Mourinho’s side. If the club hope to challenge the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal during the next campaign, young, exciting players will be required.
Luckily, De Bruyne is one of the most promising talents in Europe, and made more assists than any player across the continent last year. He is exactly the kind of player that City need if they wish to be lifting the top prize once again.
