Raheem Sterling ready to sign five-year contract with Manchester City after £49m fee agreed
According to the Daily Express, the Citizens are ready to follow up their £49m signing of the former Liverpool – with the England international earning £180,000 a week after signing a five-year deal – by making a £35m bid for Wolfsburg star Kevin De Bruyne.
The former Chelsea flop has completely rebuilt his reputation since his move to the Bundesliga in 2014. In his first full season with Dieter Hecking’s side, the playmaker managed a staggering 20 assists, as well as ten goals, helping the club inflict an embarrassing defeat upon Bayern Munich, finish second in the top flight, and win the German Cup for the first time in their history.
Understandably, his performances have forced plenty of sides to consider a bid, and Manchester City’s offer could now be on its way.
As well as his capabilities on the pitch, the Belgian fulfils the criteria Manuel Pellegrini has adopted during this window.
The signing of Sterling, as well as the bids for the 24-year-old and Fabian Delph (via Sky Sports), have suggested that the Chilean wants to freshen up the side with young, preferably English, talent after watching his team fail to keep up with the controlled pace Chelsea managed on their way to the Premier League title last season.
