Manchester City plan to step up their pursuit of Kevin De Bruyne while the Belgian is in England for a pre-season tournament.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the Citizens will use the Bundesliga side’s presence in the Emirates Cup to try and broker a deal for the 24-year-old. The Daily Mirror previously suggested that Manuel Pellegrini’s men were considering the possibility of making a £60m bid for the former Chelsea man.
Although De Bruyne may only be back in the country for a two-day friendly competition – also involving Arsenal, Lyon, and Villarreal – the presence of his agent (via Evening News) would suggest that talks regarding his future may well be expected.
It is not difficult to understand why Pellegrini is so keen to secure the Wolfsburg man’s signature. He enjoyed an unbelievable season in Germany, and inspired his side to elevate themselves and become Bayern Munich’s nearest challengers. They also clinched the German Cup for the first time in their history. It was De Bruyne’s ten goals and 20 assists in the top flight that was largely to thank for their success.
