Manchester United are ready to follow up the signing of Sergio Romero (via club’s official website), by imminently announcing the arrival of another goalkeeper, as the deal is already reportedly done.
According to the Metro, the Red Devils had agreed personal terms with Ajax stopper Jasper Cillessen, but El Confidencial claim that the Dutchman has already said his goodbyes to his teammates, and is just waiting for the Premier League side to make his move official.
The news that Louis van Gaal has completed a move for one goalkeeper, and is ready to sign another, would suggest that both the club’s current stoppers’ futures lie away from Old Trafford.
While Victor Valdes’ departure seemed inevitable, given his public spat with his manager (via Telegraph), United fans may be a little disappointed – despite the calibre of their new signings – as it appears to confirm that van Gaal expects David de Gea to leave the club, at the very latest when his contract expires next summer (via Daily Star).
Given the Spaniard’s performances in the last couple of campaigns, supporters may have been hoping that if they could have kept him away from Real Madrid – who seem to be the only side that the 24-year-old will leave England for (via Star) – this summer, he may have a change of heart during the upcoming campaign, and decide that he wishes to stay where he is.
However, these two signings would suggest that de Gea is heading back to Spain.
