Louis van Gaal seems determined to steal some of the success that Bayern Munich have enjoyed in recent years, as he’s followed up the signing of Bastian Schweinsteiger by making a bid for another of Pep Guardiola’s key men.
According to the Metro, the Red Devils have already had a £57m offer turned down by the German champions, but they have decided to come back in with a much improved bid.
The Metro suggest that the Old Trafford outfit are now willing to break the record for the largest fee spent on one player by a British club – which they themselves broke last year with the £59.7m deal for Angel Di Maria – by offering Bayern a whopping £69.6m for the forward.
Muller has become one of Europe’s best players in an attacking position in recent years, which gives a major indication as to why van Gaal is willing to make such an incredible offer to bring him to the Premier League.
He can play as either a striker, or in a slightly deeper position, and has proved that he is equally capable in both roles. Should he move to United, he is most likely to play up front, given their lack of options in that area on the pitch, and his ability to find the back of the net.
