The Argentinian moved to the Premier League last summer for a fee of £59.7m (via Telegraph), and at the time, was considered as one of the best players in the world, having enjoyed a fantastic year with Real Madrid, and helping his country reach the World Cup final.
However, he has endured a torrid time since his move to England, leading to speculation that he could be on the move once again during this window. The Daily Star report that the Ligue 1 side are closing in on completing a £50m move for the 27-year-old.
But, the ex-right-back believes that it would be wrong for him to leave now.
“That would be a big shame if that happened. He should resist and want to prove himself in the Premier League,” he explained.
Should he decide to stay as part of Louis van Gaal’s side, he faces a battle to get into the team. The Red Devils have already added Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, and Bastian Schweinsteiger to a congested midfield. Based on his efforts last season, it’s difficult to imagine why van Gaal would want to select him when he’s already made another series of big-money signings.
