Manchester United have made an unsuccessful bid of £57.4m for Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller, however talks are ongoing.
According to the Metro, the two clubs have previously discussed the player’s future as part of other negotiations, with Angel Di Maria being linked with a move to the Allianz Arena (via Daily Express), while Bastian Schweinsteiger has been tipped for a switch to the Premier League side (via ESPN).
And now the Old Trafford club have decided to make an audacious bid for the attacker, the Metro report. However, the Bundesliga side have rejected the offer for one of their key men.
The fact that the Metro report that talks remain ongoing between the two sides would suggest that the Bavarian club are not completely against the idea of losing Muller.
However, his goalscoring record for both club and country would suggest that that could be a big mistake. He has scored 71 times in the top flight for the side since his debut in 2008, and boasts a lethal record at international level, with ten of his 27 strikes coming in the World Cup. And at 25, he stands a very good chance of surpassing Miroslav Klose’s record haul in the tournament’s history.
His versatility would be a great benefit to van Gaal. He is able to play as a striker, or can fill in slightly deeper to create gaps for teammates to exploit.
