Manchester United have rejected reports in Spain which suggested that they were willing to lower their asking price for David de Gea.
According to the Daily Express, Real Madrid have made the Spain international one of their main targets this summer, and value the player at £15m as he heads into the final year of his contract.
United had wanted £35m for the 24-year-old, which, had an offer come in, would have made him the most expensive goalkeeper in history, the Express report.
But, reports had recently suggested that Louis van Gaal’s side would now accept as little as £25m, perhaps afraid that they risk losing him for nothing next summer.
However, the Express have now revealed that the asking price has not changed, and the club are prepared to lose him on a free next summer, should Madrid not pay the full amount.
United are taking a gamble by calling Madrid’s bluff. With Iker Casillas still in good form, and Keylor Navas still around, Los Blancos have more than enough resources to last this campaign, should they decide to wait and bag a bargain.
Meanwhile, United fans will be disappointed should they have to watch one of their best players leave the club for nothing.
