Manchester United will be able to sign Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia, but only if they cough up £35.5m for the Argentina international, reports in Italy have claimed.
According to the Daily Express, the Serie A side have offered the 29-year-old a new contract, worth £1.6m per year, but that would not stop them letting him go, should a huge offer come in.
The Express report that Biglia is being considered as an option to provide more defensive depth to Louis van Gaal’s midfield. However, the Daily Mirror report that Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin are high on the club’s summer wishlist.
But, should they fail to capture either the World Cup winner or the Southampton man, van Gaal may decide to pursue Biglia. The Mirror report that Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola wants Schweinsteiger to stay, while United’s valuation of the Frenchman is well short of Southampton’s asking price, which arguably increases the chances that Lazio may have to prepare themselves for a bid.
As solid as Biglia has been, fans may be put off by the potential fee, especially given that he is approaching 30. The Mirror reported that Schweinsteiger – who played against Biglia in last year’s World Cup final – could be available for £15m, which would surely represent better value for money.
