Newcastle have suffered a blow in their transfer plans as Anderlecht striker Aleksander Mitrovic has reportedly performed a last minute U-turn on his decision to join them following last minute interest from Premier League champions Chelsea, according to the Metro.
Earlier in the week, the Serbian international’s agent made comments suggesting that a deal to link up with the Magpies (via Daily Star) but it now seems that he has changed his mind in order to play Champions League football instead.
The 20-year-old has already made a name for himself in Belgium, scoring an impressive 36 goals in 69 appearances since joining the club back in 2013 and has since turned himself into a regular international with Serbia.
However, his arrival will likely be as a backup to the likes of Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao, though, as the Blues look to successfully defend their Premier League title and make a meaningful impact in Europe.
His arrival, should it go ahead, would also spell disaster for Frenchman Loic Remy, who may well be moved on to accommodate him in the squad.
