Chelsea and Manchester City have missed out on Paul Pogba, after the Juventus midfielder decided that he will join Barcelona next summer, according to reports in Spain, the Daily Express suggest.
The Express report that due to Barcelona’s transfer embargo – that prevents them signing any players during this window – the Frenchman will remain with the Serie A side for one final season, before switching to the Nou Camp next year.
Barcelona representatives flew to Milan yesterday to discuss a deal, the Express suggest, and it seems that they came back having succeeded in their mission, should reports be correct.
The news is a massive blow to both of the Premier League’s top two from last season, who had both placed the 22-year-old near the very top of their respective shopping lists. City are now expected to ramp up their interest in former Blue Kevin De Bruyne, the Express suggest.
However, they will be very disappointed to miss out on the former Manchester United man. He has established himself as one of the finest midfielders in the world, and helped Juventus win the double. And they were only denied the treble by Pogba’s potential new side, who defeated them in the Champions League final.
