Respected Spanish journalist Paco Gonzalez has claimed that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been calling Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema in an attempt to sway him towards a move to North London, the Metro reports.
Wenger has reportedly had his eye on the France international as he looks to bolster his frontline this summer, though he managed to deflect all speculation about his future by taking a well timed holiday to New York.
But now, as the transfer window gets into full swing, COPE reporter Paco Gonzalez has reported that Wenger has been calling his compatriot on the phone to sound him out about a transfer.
PACO GONZÁLEZ:"Wenger ha vuelto a llamar este verano a Benzema, pero no quiere salir del Madrid. Jesé tampoco. Están encantados con Mayoral"

Real aren’t thought to be keen on letting the striker go in the current window, but Wenger is hopeful of being able to convince him that his future lies elsewhere.
Premier League rivals Manchester United have been linked with a move for the former Lyon man in the past, but it is thought the Metro claim that he would prefer a switch to Arsenal if he was going to come to England.
