West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has confirmed that he intends to make an offer that would see Chelsea and Liverpool target Alex Song return to the Boleyn Ground next season.
The midfielder spent last season on loan with the Hammers, and the Daily Express report that Barcelona would be happy to let him go, should any interested club offer £6m. And Bilic explained that they would be one of the sides making an offer.
“I don’t deny that he was a great player who did really well last year and I would like him to stay with us,” he said.
There is a feeling that the 27-year-old has unfinished business at Upton Park. While the former Arsenal man made a solid start to life back in London, and helped Sam Allardyce’s men claim a top four spot in the Premier League, his form – much like that of his teammates – tailed off as the campaign went on.
While his tackling always supported the back four, his ball retention was suspect, and could possibly have been one of the main reasons the Hammers hierarchy were initially unsure about making his loan permanent. However, it now appears that he may be given another chance to shine in the Premier League.
