A report in the Daily Telegraph is claiming that Premier League champions Chelsea will complete an £8m swoop for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic this week.
The Bosnian international is now in the final year of his contract at the Britannia Stadium, and the Blues want him to replace veteran stopper Petr Cech, who finally joined Arsenal last week.
The Telegraph states that he has been in talks with the club all week, where both a transfer fee and personal terms were agreed.
Chelsea’s opening £6m offer was rejected, but they have since added a further £2m onto the price tag, and sources close to the Potters claim that the only thing holding the deal up is Stoke’s indecision on which Chelsea player they want on loan in return.
However, the deal is expected to go through this week, meaning Begovic will be a member of the squad before Jose Mourinho’s men jet off on a pre-season tour of the United States on July 15.
Aston Villa had also shown an interest, but it appears as though Begovic is happy to compete for a starting spot with Thibaut Courtois instead.
