Given the anticipation surrounding the Emirates yesterday, there is little question that Arsenal’s defeat to West Ham was an embarrassment. But, Alexis Sanchez is clearly keen to ensure that it does not happen again.
The Chilean enjoyed a marvellous first season in north London, so it was little surprise that, despite only returning to pre-season a few days ago following his country’s success in the Copa America (via Metro), Arsene Wenger decided to throw him on when the game against the Hammers looked lost.
While the former Barcelona man showed no signs of rust or fatigue, and absolutely ran his heart out for the cause, he was unable to inspire his teammates before the full-time whistle went.
However, they should have been inspired by what he decided to do once everyone had gone home.
According to the Metro, the 26-year-old decided to continue his fitness work by continuously sprinting up and down the pitch, just like he had done when he was brought on.
If the rest of his teammates show this amount of application and desire, surely they can’t be ruled out of the title race just yet?
