Arsenal and Tottenham may have been alerted by the news that following his transfer request, Victor Wanyama has been left out of Southampton’s squad for their Europa League clash with FC Midtjylland, the Daily Express report. However, the south coast club have tried to quash speculation by explaining why the Kenyan is missing the second leg.
According to the Express, the holding midfielder is suffering from a stomach infection so hasn’t made the trip to Denmark. However, they insist that despite the former Celtic man’s desire to leave, he will not be allowed to go during this window.
Given the number of key players that have gone through the St Mary’s exit over the past couple of seasons, the north London pair may still fancy their chances of landing the 24-year-old, and the Express suggest that the Saints value the stalwart at £18m.
Having already lost Morgan Schneiderlin this summer, losing Wanyama would be a huge blow to Ronald Koeman’s plans for the season. The pair provided so much support for the back four during the last campaign, and displayed the quality and composure on the ball which allowed the side to shift from defence to attack in little time at all.
