Arsenal have reportedly moved ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Russia international Aleksandr Kokorin, according to the Metro.
The 24-year-old has been attracting interest from right across Europe, with the Metro reporting that Zenit, Paris Saint-Germain, and the Gunners’ bitter rivals Tottenham are also interested in the Dynamo Moscow striker.
However, after seemingly missing out on Karim Benzema – who dropped a massive hint on social media that he plans to go nowhere this summer – Arsene Wenger has apparently put a lot of effort into landing Kokorin, as the Metro suggest that the north London side are the ones closing in on a deal.
Should he move to the Emirates, the Russian is unlikely to be the man that appeases supporters following a summer for the club which has been centred around finding a striker capable of guiding the Gunners to the title.
While he is still young enough that he has time to develop, he has hardly been ruthless enough to warrant selection ahead of either Olivier Giroud or Theo Walcott.
