Here is Sunday’s news and gossip concerning Arsenal:
Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli has claimed that Karim Benzema’s move to the Emirates is basically done and will be completed next week, according to the Metro.
Giulianelli claimed that the Real Madrid man will wear the number nine shirt for the Gunners.
However, frustrations over the Benzema saga has seen Arsene Wenger put Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani at the top of his wishlist, the Metro report.
The Gunners are prepared to make a £35.5m bid for the Uruguayan if they fail to land Benzema.
Current Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud believes that he is capable of leading the line for the side this year, despite failing to trouble the scorers during their opening weekend defeat to West Ham, the Daily Express report.
“I always try to improve myself and I feel with the team, so yes, I am sure I can bring something more to the team and to my teammates,” he insisted.
The Daily Express have suggested that Arsenal are considering a possible bid for Bayern Munich playmaker Mario Gotze.
The 23-year-old’s strained relationship with manager Pep Guardiola appears to have fuelled speculation that he may be on his way this summer.
Finally, Arsene Wenger expects that striker Danny Welbeck will be available for selection in a month, the Daily Mirror report.
