Arsenal have been told by Paris Saint-Germain that they can sign Ezequiel Lavezzi this summer, according to the Metro.
The Gunners have been linked with big-money moves for Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, and Lavezzi’s teammate Edinson Cavani, the Metro report, but may now switch their attention after being told that the 30-year-old is available.
The Metro report that he is valued at just £8.5m, but his wage demands could prove a greater stumbling block as he currently pockets £95,000 a week.
Having competed with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cavani for the majority of his time at Parc des Princes, the World Cup finalist has found opportunities up front difficult to come by. His goalscoring strike-rate in Ligue 1 is not far off one goal in every five games, which does not suggest he is by any means prolific, even if he has spent most of his time in France out on the wing.
With an abundance of wingers, or creative attacking midfielders in Arsene Wenger’s squad already, the Frenchman really needs to add another striker, rather than someone who can play the role if required.
And with Olivier Giroud scoring a wonderful goal against Crystal Palace yesterday, the potential new signing needs to be something extremely special in front of goal if he is going to elevate the Gunners.
