Arsene Wenger may have vowed not to panic in the wake of Arsenal’s opening weekend defeat to West Ham (via Daily Mirror), but it appears that he is lining up two huge deals to ensure that the Gunners’ fortunes change quickly.
According to the Metro, the Frenchman is hoping to complete a Bundesliga raid by signing both Mario Gotze of Bayern Munich and Schalke’s Julian Draxler.
The pair were both part of the Germany squad that went on to win last year’s World Cup, with Gotze being the man to bag the only goal in the final against Argentina. Despite the talent they possess, it appears that both could be on the move this summer.
Gotze has previously hinted that his relationship with Bayern manager Pep Guardiola could be better (via Daily Express) after enduring a couple of challenging years at the Allianz Arena, while Schalke boss Andre Breitenreiter has suggested that the 21-year-old may leave if they receive an amazing offer (via Metro).
Should Wenger manage to pull off this sensational double deal, Arsenal fans may look on the West Ham game as some kind of twisted blessing as it forced the chequebook to be dusted off and used to sign two of the most exciting names in the world currently.
