Arsenal have apparently made an 11th hour bid to beat Tottenham to the signature of Lyon forward Clinton Njie, according to the Metro.
The Metro states that the winger is on the verge of joining the White Heart Lane outfit after the two clubs agreed a fee for him.
However, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has suddenly cast the deal into doubt by suggesting that yet another English club has weighed in with another offer.
French publication L’Equipe seem to believe that the club in question is Tottenham’s north London rivals Arsenal, who are now poised to beat Spurs to the punch for the player’s signature.
“Clinton Njie’s departure is not complete. We have received an offer from another big English club which is complicating things,” Aulas said.
To beat Tottenham, Arsenal would likely have to make an improvement on the £10m offer that Spurs have already lodged (via Metro).
The 22-year-old Cameroon international has made a positive impression during his time with the Ligue 1 giants. Since making his debut back in 2012 he has gone on to make 43 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals in the process.
And though his goal return for Lyon doesn’t suggest that he is exactly prolific, his record for the Cameroon national side alludes to a greater killer instinct in front of goal, bagging six strikes in 11 appearances.
