Jack Wilshere could be set for another month on the sidelines, after the Daily Express reported that the Arsenal man had suffered another injury to his problematic ankle.
The midfielder took no part in the Community Shield victory over Chelsea at the weekend, and had a scan on Monday, with the Express reporting that he is now set to miss the opening weeks of the season, as well as England’s upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Switzerland.
The 23-year-old missed five months of last season due to an injury sustained during the Gunners’ clash with Manchester United in November, and only returned to the side for the final few games, by which time the Premier League title was practically Chelsea’s.
Nevertheless, his return lifted Arsene Wenger’s side, and he celebrated his comeback with a stunning goal on the final day of the league season against West Brom. One week later, he would be part of the side that would clinch the FA Cup for a second successive year.
He would continue his promising form on international duty. A frustrating performance against the Republic of Ireland was followed by a fantastic showing in Slovenia where he bagged a sensational brace as Roy Hodgson’s men scraped a win.
He would have been hoping that he would be able to carry that momentum into the new season, and given the determined character that Wilshere is, he will be desperate to ensure that this latest setback does not prevent him doing so.
