Despite Karim Benzema posting a very clear message on Twitter that he was planning to stay with Real Madrid (via Metro), Arsene Wenger has not completely given up on trying to lure the forward to the Emirates, according to the Metro.
The Metro suggest that the Gunners are aware of how difficult it will be to persuade the 27-year-old to move to the Premier League, but plan to make a last-ditch attempt to get his signature before they accept that their months of pursuit have been a waste of time.
Wenger’s men have made a shaky start to the new campaign, which has highlighted their need for a new striker.
While Aaron Ramsey’s effort appeared to be wrongly chalked off for offside during their goalless draw with Liverpool, the Gunners were largely wasteful against Brendan Rodgers’ side as only five of their 19 attempts were on target. That inability to beat Simon Mignolet means that they have failed to score in both of their home games so far this season.
And should they fail to add another goalscorer before the window shuts. then the north London outfit may find themselves ruled out of the title race at a very early stage.
