Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said that star forward Alexis Sanchez will return to the first team in 10 days, the Daily Express reports.
The Chilean international was given an extended break by the Gunners boss following his exertions with his country at the Copa America earlier in the summer.
Sanchez returned to pre-season training for the first time this week, but it is thought that Sunday’s clash with West Ham United will come too soon for him to jump straight back into the action.
Speaking at his annual pre-game Friday press conference, Wenger told reporters that though the 26-year-old is back in training, he will not be considered for selection in Sunday’s 1:30pm kick off.
Wenger also feels that next week’s clash with Crystal Palace will also come too soon, and that a more realistic return date will be the meeting with Liverpool on August 24.
“He came back in good shape and should be available to play in 10 days,” Wenger said.
“He played a World Cup, played a whole season, the Copa America and cannot start the season.”
