Aston Villa have emerged as the surprise contenders to scupper Liverpool’s move for Barcelona youngster Adama Traore, according to the Metro.
The Metro report that the Reds were seemingly close to sealing a deal, with the 19-year-old set to arrive on Merseyside for a medical.
However, Tim Sherwood’s side have swooped in and now lead the charge for the winger (via Metro). The Midlands outfit are willing to spend £7m on the prospect, but are also open to a potential loan deal.
Despite a difficult period earlier in the window – where they lost both Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke to Premier League rivals – the Villains have made several exciting signings, and Traore would be the latest to arrive through the Villa Park door.
Nevertheless, Sherwood’s major concern will be whether the new names are able to gel in time before the new campaign begins. But, there is little question that signing the likes of the Barcelona man will benefit their chances of improving upon a difficult campaign last time out.
