Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is hoping that Neymar will not only resist a move to Manchester United this summer, but will remain with the Catalan giants for the entirety of his career, the Daily Express report.
The Sun claimed that the Red Devils are prepared to trigger his £130m release clause, while taxes would send the total fee to an incredible £165m. To make the deal more appealing to the Brazilian, United are willing to offer a contract which would see Neymar pocket £300,000 a week (via The Sun).
However, Bartomeu wants the 23-year-old to stay at Barca for the rest of his career, and plans to offer him a new contract in the near future (via Express).
“He is young and we want him to retire here at our club,” he said.
“We will discuss Neymar’s renewal in some months’ time as he must stay here,” he added.
While the forward’s current contract is in place, United will be able to hold talks with Neymar as long as they meet his release clause, which The Sun claim they are willing to. Louis van Gaal may be hoping to use the opportunity – no matter how reluctant the Brazil captain is to make the move – to convince him that he can be the star at Old Trafford that Lionel Messi prevents him from being in Luis Enrique’s side.
However, Bartomeu will be hoping that improved terms will be enough to convince Neymar to commit his entire career to the Spanish champions.
