Manchester United have reportedly been told by Barcelona that if they want to complete a move for Pedro, they must activate his release clause, according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, the Daily Express report.
The Express suggest that the Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the 28-year-old ahead of a move, but the fee remains a stumbling block.
Louis van Gaal is hoping that the Spaniard’s desire to move could see the club negotiate a lower price, but Balague confirmed that Barcelona are digging their heels in (via Express).
“Of course, Manchester United and Pedro have reached an agreement so it’s just a matter for United to pay the €30m [£22m] and I wouldn’t be surprised if they do,” he stated.
Many would agree that given Pedro’s talent, United are already getting a very good deal, and thus, the prospect of getting the move finalised before the start of the new Premier League season should persuade them to meet Barca’s demands.
While it may prove a little late to get a deal across the line in time for the attacker to play against Tottenham, the news of the confirmed move will give Old Trafford a major boost as the anticipation grips the supporters.
