Manchester United and Arsenal have been alerted after former Bayern Munich hero Giovane Elber conceded that Mario Gotze does not seem happy at the Allianz Arena, the Daily Express report.
The 23-year-old had established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the world after helping Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final during his last season at Westfalenstadion. His rise to prominence then saw him make a move to the Bavarian side in 2013. However, he has struggled to make quite the same impact for Pep Guardiola’s team.
Elber – who scored 92 Bundesliga goals in just 169 games during his six years with Bayern – has suggested that his struggles are down to the player being unhappy (via Express).
“When you are unhappy somewhere, you put too much thought into everything you do. And things simply don’t work out then,” he said.
The former Brazil international believes that his relationship with Guardiola could be one of the reasons why he has struggled to make the desired impact.
“I don’t know how his relationship with Pep Guardiola is, but Gotze looks a bit like a Brazilian to me,” he claimed.
“You have to flatter him and boost his confidence. You have to tell him that you are there for him to help him,” he explained.
Hearing that a potential target is not happy currently – and may not be until either he or the manager moves on – may tempt either Louis van Gaal or Arsene Wenger to try their luck and make a sensational bid for the World Cup winner. However, the Express suggest that Gotze will cost at least £40m.
