Arsene Wenger is interested in signing Karim Benzema this summer, but is not willing to pay Real Madrid’s asking price for the Frenchman, the Daily Mirror report. That is despite the fact that the Gunners were unable to score against West Ham in front of their own fans.
The Mirror report that despite their interest, the club have not held talks with either the player or his club in the last week, and remain adamant that they will not be making a bid that matches Los Blancos’ asking price.
Their main concern is that they will be paying over the odds for a player that will soon be 28 (via Mirror), and thus, will have just a couple years left at his peak.
Nevertheless, the Mirror report that they will not be ruling out a move, but it depends on whether the La Liga side decide to lower their valuation as the deadline looms.
Gunners fans will be desperately urging Wenger to make a move happen for the former Lyon man. While Petr Cech was disappointing, and so takes most of the blame for their defeat against Slaven Bilic’s side, their inability to test Adrian was equally alarming, and questions continue to be asked about Olivier Giroud or Theo Walcott can lead the line for a Premier League title-winning side.
