Manchester United’s hopes of landing Lazio star Lucas Biglia have suffered a major setback, after the Daily Express reported that three of the biggest sides in Europe joined the race to sign the holding midfielder.
The Express suggest that the Red Devils had made a £17.5m move for the 29-year-old, despite already signing Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger this summer. However, the Serie A side rejected that bid, and reportedly told Louis van Gaal that they wanted a whopping £35m for their captain.
While it remains to be seen whether that asking price is likely to deter United, it appears that Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain have now entered the race to sign the World Cup finalist.
Like the Old Trafford outfit, all three of the interested sides have plenty of options that would be competing with Biglia for a place in the side, should he end up joining one of them.
However, that arguably demonstrates each manager’s desire to have a fighter like the Argentinian in their ranks, despite the competition and the large asking price that Lazio have set.
