Chelsea are considering whether to make one of the most surprising moves of the summer so far, after the Independent reported that they were interested in making a £15m bid for Tottenham’s Danny Rose.
The Independent suggest that Jose Mourinho is desperate to add more defensive depth ahead of their Premier League title defence, having let Filipe Luis move back to Atletico Madrid following a difficult year at Stamford Bridge.
And while Baba Rahman of Augsburg and Galatasaray’s Alex Telles have been linked (via Independent), it appears that Mourinho has decided to look much closer to home.
The 25-year-old enjoyed his best season at White Hart Lane last year, and became one of the first names on Mauricio Pochettino’s teamsheet. He managed to score three goals – including one during the 5-3 victory over the Blues on New Year’s Day – and created four assists.
Nevertheless, he will have a difficult task on his hands if he wishes to break into Mourinho’s side. Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic rarely put a foot wrong in their title-winning campaign, and have become stalwarts of the Portuguese’s side.
The Independent suggest that Chelsea could continue their pursuit of Rahman should they fail to pull off a move for Rose.
