Chelsea are reportedly ready to turn their attentions away from Everton defender John Stones and make a move for Monaco’s Aymen Abdennour instead, according to the Daily Mail.
After submitting three offers for the England under-21 international – all of which have been rejected by The Toffees – Chelsea are ready to turn their attentions to Abdennour as he represents a cheaper option at £15m.
The 26-year-old impressed in the heart of Monaco’s defence last season and flourished both domestically as well as in European competition.
Mourinho has made strengthening his defence a priority recently in the wake of dips in form from the usually reliable John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic.
But with the transfer deadline just days away now, Mourinho is reluctant to let any of his remaining business go down to the wire and having seem multiple offers for Stones rejected he is ready to look elsewhere.
Abdennour has been a target for both Arsenal and Liverpool recently, but given Chelsea’s financial clout they will undoubtedly be in the driving seat to snap him up.
