Having just completed the signing of Barcelona forward Pedro on Thursday afternoon (via BBC), Chelsea are reportedly set to follow that move up by lodging an offer for Monaco striker Anthony Martial, according to Spanish publication AS.com.
The 19-year-old front man joined Monaco back in 2013 from fellow Ligue 1 side Lyon, and went on to become a regular fixture in their first team over the course of the previous campaign.
And his abilities have apparently attracted the attentions of Blues boss Jose Mourinho, who AS believe has tabled a stunning £39m (€55m) offer for his services.
Chelsea’s main striker Diego Costa is still being hampered by a long standing hamstring injury, leaving just Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao to deputise in his absence.
However, despite Martial’s apparent bright future, £39m is an obscene amount of money to spend on a striker that managed to find the net just nine times in 35 games in Ligue 1 last term.
Jose Mourinho is known to be looking for players to bolster his squad following a poor early defence of his Premier League title, but as it stands there seems to be very little rationale behind why he has offered so much.
